What is XAT?
Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a national-level management entrance examination which is
conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur regarding MBA/ PGDM programs. Almost for over 700
Business Schools consider and accept XAT scores apart from XLRI and 10 other XAMI
members for postgraduate management programs. XAT Exam is conducted in 46
different cities in January first week.

Eligibility Criteria for XAT Exam
Applicants have to be eligible according to the following criteria to appear for XAT.
The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree of three years or a recognized equivalent from any stream. The candidate should not have any backlogs on their mark sheets.
Candidates with Indian citizenship can apply for XAT and candidates who are
foreigners and NRI can register and apply on the basis of their GMAT scores. Candidates of Dubai and Kathmandu can directly apply for XAT in their respected
places as XAT centers are very well available there.
Candidates studying in the last year can also apply for the XAT but making sure that all
the demands should be fulfilled according to the admission criteria before the given
deadline.
Any age group candidate can apply for the XAT because there are no boundaries on the age limit in the XAT exam.
Admit Card for XAT
Admit card for XAT issues in the third week of December by XLRI Jamshedpur. Candidates
can download the admit card from the official site which is xat online.in. Information
needed to be entered on the website will be a valid XAT ID and password. Once the admit
card is downloaded, check whether the details that are mentioned are correct or not and
also go through the details such as exam center, date, timings, and exam instructions. If
there is an issue with the admit card, candidates are needed to rectify those mistakes as soon as possible otherwise they will not be allowed to give the exam. Admit cards should be kept safely till the time of the admission because it is an important document.
Documents that are required with Admit Card are:
1. Aadhaar Card
2. Voter ID Card
3. Passport
4. PAN Card
5. Driving License
6. Photo ID issued by current education institute or employer among others.
XAT Exam Centers List
In the XAT exam which will be held in 2021, candidates will be allowed to choose 2 test
centers while registering. The final exam centers which will be allotted to the candidates
will be given on the admit card. XLRI Jamshedpur will be releasing the final exam centers in their official brochure.
More about XAT Exam
There are some important instructions which are needed to be followed by the candidates. The exam is for 3 hours from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. The paper consists of two sections, the first section consists of a total of 74 questions which include verbal and logical ability, decision making and analytical ability, and quantitative ability and data interpretation. The second section consists of 25 questions from general knowledge.
Some of the instructions are given below:
1. Candidates to be seated according to their given seat number which is the Centre
Registration Number (CRN) in the exam hall.
2. Rough works to be done within the margin which is provided in the answer sheet,
no extra sheet will be provided for the rough work in the exam hall.
3. Candidates will not be allowed to leave their seat for any reason before the
invigilators take over the answer sheets of each and every student, only after that
one can leave the exam hall.
XAT Exam Pattern
Candidates are advised to go through the exam pattern of the XAT to extract all the shocks in the exam hall. Some variations that have been noticed from the past few years are mentioned below:
1. XAT Exam will be conducted online as a computer-based test in one slot.
2. Each correct answer will be given 1 mark and every wrong answer will reduce 0.25
marks. In the general knowledge section, negative marking will not be applicable.
3. There are two divided parts in this exam, Part 1 and Part 2, Part 1 consists of 74
questions and has a limit of 165 minutes, and Part 2 consists of 25 questions with
a time limit of 15 minutes.
4. Candidates are allowed to switch sections in Part 1 but not allowed to switch
sections in Part 2.
5. Candidates will receive a penalty of 0.05 marks in every question if he/she leaves 8
unattempted questions in the exam.
6. In 2020, an important change was been made of excluding the essay writing test
and the candidates are only supposed to prepare for multiple-choice questions.
7. The score obtained in the general knowledge section will not be excluded in the
final calculation of the marks which is the percentile calculation.
XAT Syllabus
XLRI does not have an official syllabus for the entrance exam. The syllabus is mainly based on the previous year question papers and trends and syllabus which is been
drawn from the previous year's experience.
The paper basically consists of objective type questions from Data Interpretation and
Quantitative Ability, English Language and Reasoning, and Decision Making.
