Can I Ace My CAT Exam Starting From Today?

There were a lot of uncertainties regarding CAT 2020; different announcements kept coming one by one because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This affected the students in different ways, the students who started the preparation in early 2020 lost hope and stopped the preparation and the students who were going to start the coaching were as well-de- motivated because the whole country was in lockdown, for some students it got harder to concentrate and study at home without proper guidance.

Why Start Today?

Structuring a proper plan to clear the CAT 2020 Exam is very important. Practicing little by little on a daily basis should be compulsory for every candidate so as to make it a habit, and making something a habit is very difficult but if it’s good, you’ve got to do it for yourself. Once a student is familiar with the syllabus, then it’s very easy to divide the syllabus into a time-table according to his/ her comfort because most of the students waste their time even after figuring out the syllabus and exam pattern for CAT Exam.

Preparing CAT in 6 Months.

Yes! You can prepare for CAT Exam within 6 months. There are a lot of CAT 2019 toppers
who mentioned that they started preparing for the exam when only 6 months were left.
Isn’t it what all the candidates who are going to or wish to appear for the exam wanted to
hear?
Here are some target points to focus on for a candidate who is planning to start their CAT preparation in 6 months:

1- Management of Time:
If you are going to appear for CAT Exam, you have to have a proper time management plan with yourself. As almost everybody knows the syllabus, there are 3 sections, Quantitative Ability, Reasoning, and Verbal Ability, but the technique to prepare and attempt these 3 sections can be tricky but very helpful in the exam hall. According to CAT 2020, each section is allotted 40 minutes so a candidate should make a time table and start practicing every section daily.

2- Enroll in Coaching:
There are many candidates who can prepare their own time-table and divide the syllabus
as per the needed format. But there are some candidates who lack concentration and
need guidance from an experienced person so it is recommended for them to join good
coaching to crack the exam. There is a lot of online coaching available if a candidate does
not want to go out and waste time and energy in traveling.

3- Getting familiar with concept shortcuts:
According to the toppers, the main focus of a candidate should be only in clearing concepts for every topic because it is very easy to guess the questions which are based on Reasoning and Quantitative ability but very hard to guess the questions based on Verbal ability and reading comprehension.

Preparing CAT in 3 Months.

1- Section-wise preparation:
Preparation of CAT Exam can be done within 3 months, the only thing a candidate needs to keep in mind is not panicking and stressing over time.

 For Verbal and Reading Comprehension- Candidates should read journals, newspapers, articles, and blogs to brush up on the skills. Start practicing the type of questions that come into the exam.
 For Quantitative Ability- Practice questions on a mathematical basis. Topics that need
to be focused on while practicing are profit and loss, geometry, number system.
 For Logical Reasoning- Topics that a candidate should focus on are blood relations,
seating arrangements, syllogisms, etc. Try not to use a calculator in this section
while solving questions.

2- Work on Problem Areas:
Candidates should try and focus on working on the problem areas in which they are not
totally confident. This will help to enhance the topics much better.

3- Sample papers/ Previous year questions
Candidates should try to solve as many practice papers or sample papers as they can on a daily basis which results in the revision of the whole syllabus day by day and improves the speed of solving every section on time.

Preparing CAT in 1 Month.

1- Mock tests:
IIM Indore releases Mock Test Papers every year for the candidates to give a clear picture
of what the CAT Exam is going to offer in front of them. Solving Mock test papers is the best way in knowing how much you are prepared for the CAT Exam.

2- Practice strong points
Instead of starting a new topic and inviting a lot of confusion in front of you, try focusing
and brushing up on the strong topics. Do not waste your time trying new topics or concepts.
