These Six Formulas can change your life
Thu Oct 15, 2020
CAT is a logic-driven exam hence there is no shortcut formula to crack CAT. However, CAT Gurus say that adopting these things can make you bell the exam.
Formulas to crack CAT exam are:
1. Reading Newspapers daily
It is a common story of every household that the elders keep telling to read newspapers. That’s because newspapers have their own benefits that surpass e-news as well as news channels. CAT aspirants are also advised to read newspapers daily, especially the editorial section. This will not only help them in improving vocabulary but also get different viewpoints about diverse aspects. Reading daily can help in increasing your reading speed and understanding the sentences at one glance. This will be beneficial while solving Reading Comprehension (RC). Moreover, it is important to be aware of the current affairs and happenings around the world that will also help you during group discussion and personal interview. The articles and editorials written by excellent writers will help you come across a lot of new words and phrases that will increase your stock of words. Further, you will be able to understand sentence formation and improve your grammar.
3. Solve Sudoku/crosswords/puzzles
The section of logical reasoning has no scope for memorization of formulas or grammatical rules rather it requires deduction and analytical skills. Solving puzzles, Sudoku, crosswords, etc. can help you strengthen your concentration and focus on a problem and the ability to simplify them. Since puzzles and crosswords are not about memorizing, you have the room to think beyond your capability and sharpen your reasoning skills. Solving a variety of puzzles regularly will help you gather experience and you will be able to solve problems accurately without taking much time during the exam.
3. Clearing the basics
It is important to be thorough with the fundamentals of each topic. A building may collapse if the foundation is not strong enough to give support. Similarly, if your basics are not strong you will not be able to solve the complex questions. Therefore clearing the basics is important if you want to score well in the exam. For conceptual understanding, NCERT books are really good. After you are clear with your basics you can refer to Arun Sharma.
4. Regular Practice and Mock Tests
“Practice makes a man perfect”- something we keep hearing ever since childhood. This saying has a material value in real life and not only in books and articles. In order to score well in CAT, you need to practice daily. It is important to practice at least 5-10 problems from each section daily. It is also important to test your progress. This can be done by giving mocks. Analyzing your mock test results will give you the scope to point out the mistakes and strive for improvement.
5. Learn to calculate faster
Although an on-screen calculator is provided in the CAT exam, it is advised to improve your mental calculation skills. There is already a limited time given for each section. If you use the calculator for most of the problems, you will not be able to cope up with the time and even your calculations will become slower than usual. In order to improve your calculation skills, you should start with mental addition. This way you will be able to keep a track of the time and with regular practice, your speed and accuracy will improve. Do not use a calculator in the beginning no matter how complex the calculation maybe. Use Vedic tricks to do mental calculations and try to memorize the tables up to 20. The more time you give to practicing calculations the faster you can calculate in the future.
6. Meditate and Exercise
Studying and practicing all day long is appreciated but overdoing it may lead to health problems. It is important to keep your body and mind healthy so that you can concentrate more and study well. Take at least one hour from your schedule and do some sort of physical movement- exercise or yoga. Even running or jogging can help in relieving stress. Meditation can promote emotional health and can help you to increase your concentration. You must be physically, mentally as well as emotionally healthy so as to strengthen your attention span. Overall exercise and meditation help in promoting brain development that is essential during preparation.
