Score vs Percentile Mapping for CAT Examscore vs percentile

CAT 2021 is going to be held in November 2021. The exam is best known as the pioneer exam to get admission in top B-schools. Every year lakhs of students register for this prestigious seat. The IIMs of India conducts the exam at the end of the year, and the overall Percentile of the candidates is all they require. Different colleges have substantial standards for evaluating the overall percentiles.

After the announcement of the 2021 exam, the applicants are wondering about the calculation of their percentiles and score. But what are percentile and score, and how is it calculated? Well, we will do this today in this article.

Before moving forward with the detailed process of calculation, you must learn the basics first. In the process, you will learn about Raw score, Scaled score, and Percentile.
CAT Raw Score - This is the actual score awarded to you after successfully evaluating your total marks from all the sections of the CAT syllabus.

CAT Scaled Score - This is the score mentioned in your final scorecard, along with the Percentile. This score is given after the normalization of your score, which is also called equating. These scores are sometimes more or less from your raw score but won't affect your final Percentile.

Normalization - The extensive educational entrance exams widely accept this process. The perfect example is GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering). This exam aims to evaluate the applicants on the same level as the difficulty is equalized to get the idea of everyone's performance.
With this process, the raw scores of candidates are converted into scaled scores and then the percentiles.

Percentiles - This is your final score that decides your ranking in the final list. This is the score on which the performance of a candidate is distinguished. Every candidate must remember that this is not the actual score but an indication of your rank in the final list.

CAT Score vs Percentile

It is visibly seen that the CAT score and percentile are two different things but closely attached to each other. They both are directly proportional to each other means a higher CAT score will significantly increase your percentile.

The difficulty of the exam decides the CAT Score vs Percentile average every year. It is required for all the students to understand how much they need to score in the examination to get their desired seat.

Score and Percentile Accepted by Different Colleges of India

Candidates work hard for the percentiles because these will land them into their dream college. Percentiles for various IIMs and other business colleges of India are as follows:

Percentile Between 98 to 100

Candidates who fall into this category can easily expect a call from the prestigious IIMs, especially the older ones like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta.

Percentile Between 95 to 98

This bracket of Percentile will help you get into the colleges like FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, IIM Kashipur, and IIM Bodh Gaya. These colleges also seek a candidate with a strong profile.

Percentile Between 90 to 95

This score is also decent to get into colleges like new IIMs and some other new colleges. You can easily exp[ect a call from IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Jammu, Goa Institute of Management, and XIM Bhubaneswar.

Percentile Between 80 to 90

This is the least Percentile of getting a good college as no candidate will ever get a good college below that. Colleges that accept this Percentile are S. P. Jain Mumbai, Indian Institute of Financial Management, and Institute of Management Studies Banaras. These are the colleges you can choose as per your Percentile.

Composite Score Calculation

These are the final scores declared by the IIMs. CAT percentile is just an aspect; many other parameters are included in the list, like your 10th score, 12th score, graduation score, work experience, and broad academic background.

As shown in the CAT score vs Percentile, it is one of the significant aspects that aspirants must be aware of. It is all up to them for which college they are targeting. Being one of the crucial aspects yet uncertain as this format changes whenever IIMs feel so.

In the end, it's the CAT overall percentile that decides your future in your dream college.   We wish you good luck with your upcoming CAT 2021 examination.
